Valentine's Weekend

On Friday, a Valentine's Party at Max's school.  Stella, his best friend, is on his right.

Maddie still adept at her pre-k skills.

Saturday night was sleepover at the T's. The kids arrived with bottomless pits of toys in their suitcases, but no room for clothes (which came in a separate bag carried by Sam).

Sunday morning was crafts--painting, decorating branches with stickers

and coloring.

Then suitcases bumping down the alleyway on the walk back home.

Huge Excitement Saturday Before Last
because the Daisies' Father-Daughter Dance was that evening.

Daisies become Brownies, Brownies become Girl Scouts--and if you're a Daisy and you get to go to a dance with your dad, you certainly have to have a little lipstick (glossy chapstick in this case) put on,

and a corsage of roses on your wrist,

and a formal photo with your dad,

and the proud walk to the car.

Your brother doesn't want to be left out of the fun, so he gets his nails painted blue (yours were painted pink--fingers and toes).

And he gets to go out to In-and-Out Burger for dinner with his mom (and grand folks) and then a sundae afterwards.
Very special times in Burbank!!!!

End of Drought?

Nope, but a chance to bring out the umbrellas for just 5 minutes of delicious rain.

Paper Art in South Pasadena

I love Koi, a store that has fantastic window designs--

amazing fashions created out of paper:

paper wrapped,

paper styled and draped,

pleated, puckered,

often with exotic paper faces,

from this very talented paper designer.

Visitors

Last week was a busy one for visitors:

Betsy Blue, old-time Pasadena friend,

Sally Ferejohn, old-time Caltech friend,

the Harrises -- on their way to Hawaii,
and true pal Julie Woodward who somehow escaped the camera this time.

The Feinsteins came down from Palo Alto to celebrate their granddaughter Greta Wren's 4th birthday--
Carl, Sam, Toby, and Lea cutting the cake.

Lea and grandson Emmett being entertained by Max.

Greta and Maddie in wigs Lea brought from San Francisco.

And a favorite shot--on the way to the party the M's fell asleep on Sam's shoulders, lulled by our CD of Pachelbel's Canon.  Maddie says they use that in daycare to get the kids to take naps.  It's pretty effective.

January

A trip to the Griffith Park Observatory to see the comet show.  So many people there we had to walk miles from where we parked our cars, just missed the show but enjoyed the planetarium and great view of LA.

We celebrated Jess' birthday with Maddie and Max putting ALL the candles in the box on the cake.

Proud, proud Maddie received her yellow belt in Karate.

We hosted Max and Maddie for the night while Sam and Jess enjoyed an evening out.
Dinner in front of the TV, little suitcases in the background.

tucking in for the night, flashlights at the ready.

,

The next day, seeing the giant tortoises just a block from where we live

and the very strange house across the street..
Good old Burbank!
