Maddie's Fifth

Maddie's fifth birthday encompassed three pretty exciting days--

First on Friday at school where she got to sit with Mom and wear her orange crown,

and Max shared with his neighbor,

then blowing out the candles on the traditional Page birthday cake,

and finally on Sunday, Sam and Maddie wait for people to arrive,

Max greets the guests,

and Jess oversees the bouncing and sliding and tumbling in these many bounce house-y things.

Special treat was to see Lea and Carl Feinstein's son Adam, his wife Jess and their daughter Greta Wren--newly arrived in LA from NYC.

Just a quickie before the b'day parties--

This am we got the kiddos off to school, but first of course, we needed to pull up the very temporary blinds in the dining room to let in the light--

which takes a little bit of skill, pleating them up and securing them with clips.

"Not right" said Maddie,

 "It's wrong" said Max.

"You don't do it like Sam and Jess," they said, as hard as I tried.
I don't know what the secret is but I do know that sometimes nothing does it as well as a parent.

Pix from the Burbank Week

While Toby and I wait on pins and needles to see if our house can get closed before the bank forecloses on it on April 2nd, we go through the week with the Page/Kenders:

Maddie at gymnastics

where she gets a balloon and a badge for her forthcoming birthday.

Max, Sam and Toby getting to the rink just in time for Sam's ice hockey lesson and Max's skating lesson.

After the lessons, waiting for the Zamboni.

 Balancing on tires at school,

licking icing,

preparing goodie bags

posing on the bunk bed ladder.

Getting Around

Toby and I decided to go cheap when we rented a car out here from Rent-A-Wreck.  They weren't kidding!  The front was red, the sides silver. It ran fine, but was scary to look at inside--scruff marks all over, one windshield visor missing, and the aches and groans from it while we drove!  So we only slowly cruised a 5-mile distance between Sam and Jess's and our rental apartment and then turned it in yesterday.  We'll be using Sam's Honda until he needs it then rent from one of those expensive places.  Live and learn.

Meanwhile, we took the kids to a local McD's where the play area was big and enticing, but the dance video on the TV was even more interesting to Maddie

and the fireman's pole to Max.

Finally, giving Max a blue face at school.

Burbank Life

On Saturday we got to see Maddie at her gymnastics class--

where Max played with Lego's, momentarily forgetting how much he too wants to take gymnastics.

On Sunday, we got to see our house again,

this time with Jess and Max,

Sam and Maddie,

and Lea, who was down from Palo Alto staying with her LA kids.

Kitchens/Rooms

Max and

Maddie have great kid rooms,

Sam and Jess have gorgeous new wooden floors
(plus a robot vacuum cleaner--that disc behind Toby)

And Theo and Toby have a new kitchen along with a new house in Burbank, closing at the end of March,
4 blocks from Sam and family.

Breakfast

while we've been back in Chocorua has been like this:  dressed warmly because, with the plastic corridor into the "being revamped" pantry, we can't use the woodstove.

A unique way to support the candle.  Wonder who did that?
