                                                                 Candy Handouts

When Sam and Rachel were young and we would visit Emmy and Didi's house there was always a drawer in the kitchen filled with candy.  The kids loved it but Toby didn't, worried about sweets too easily dipped into.

So now look what I'm doing to my grandkids:

Whenever Maddie or Max rides their bike over to give me a freshly baked scone or  some chocolate chip coffee cake--which I love--

I give them a small bag like this,

with a scoopful of these,

 or several of these,

or two or three of these.

So far, their parents haven't objected but I'm waiting!

I try and make it up to the Panama grandkids by sending them boxes of things like these:

Not exactly a fair trade, but these seem to be very welcome in Panama.

Remember that Cat that was Hanging Around?

Very pretty, young, feral?

 She's been coming closer.

 and closer.

so I decided to feed her part of an old, neglected tuna burger I took out of the freezer.

She was cautious at first, approached it warily, but then ate it all.

Now comes twice a day for her snacks.

After which she peers at me through the kitchen screen door.

She does climb trees and the local mocking bird detests her.

I told her she could have my food if she'd leave the birds alone.

I hope she understood.

Any ideas for a name?

Back to the Blog....

the format has changed since I was last here--the photos are bigger which is great!

Max's 11th! --Bravo birthday boy!
Late opening of my presents in a
festive isolation kind of way.

Scenes from my yard:

These gorgeous flower blooming out front.
Delicious thin white petals,
delicate ocher stamens.

This is a parent Phoebe with a what seems to be a nearly fledged chick.
Missed the shot of one feeding the other.

This cat has been hanging around my yard for a few months.
I see it at all times of day, even descending from the tree by my bedroom window one night--
scary to see that long tail dangling down.
It came to my kitchen door looking hopeful which made me sad.
I believe I saw it catch a hummingbird from a bush.
It was sleeping under a neighbor's bush early yesterday morning as I walked by.
We look each other in the eye but any move and it hastens off.
I think it's homeless.
And I think it wants a home here.
What should I do?
