Memorial Day Weekend

A quiet weekend, a Saturday wedding ---

Sophia, a friend from way back, and Rick got married. A wonderful event--two people very happy to be together.

Sophia's duaghter, Maya and Nina. Rachel used to babysit for them.

It's been a gorgeous weekend. We stopped painting and writing and weeding the weedy places near the lawn to have a glass of wine and a relaxing moment on the patio. Then brought out our binoculars

to watch this nest of robins up near the spotlights near the roof. The robin parents have been flitting around for weeks outside my studio taking care of those chicks. I noticed that, while one parent goes for food, the other will take a little snooze while roosting on the nest. It was kind of reassuring to think that even robin parents get tired.

Toby lazily reading the paper with Tulip on guard nearby.

Brooklyn and Babies

Last week Margot and I drove down to Brooklyn to see Lea Feinstein who's being the grandmother-in-charge (for the month of May) for her new granddaughter Greta Wren.

Margot took instantly to Greta--feeding, burping, loving the bundle on her lap.
Greta Wren looks a lot like Adam, her dad.

Lea loved giving Greta naked tummy time

and back time.

The three of us (four--with Greta during the day) loved walking around Fort Green Park and that gorgeous part of Brooklyn. We ate fabulous meals in the nifty restaurants nearby. And we talked non-stop. Being with Greta was great. She didn't seem to mind the "ooh-ing" and "aah-ing"and three very attentive somewhat wrinkly faces smiling at her all the time.

Sunday in Panama

On our last day in Panama we traveled to the mountains and to the sea.

Leaving Gamboa you go over a bridge right by the Canal--in the distance is one of the big freighters that constantly cross, in this case, from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

We went to a great marketplace in a mountain village--David got a Panama hat

and I salivated over these bags with molas on them--full, full, full of patterns!

We stopped for lunch at a hotel outside of town--actually, not this one (too fancy) but another with an outside terrace for eating and a small pool for wading ( for Gwen, getting quite wet). Then on to the Pacific Ocean for a dip in the wavy warm sea.

And finally back to Gamboa. Tons of traffic but we sang along the way.

So that's the end of a very fabulous trip for Toby and me. Bye bye family and Gamboa!

Weekend Outing in Panama

This Saturday we went by boat to an Indian village

which is only about 20 minutes from Gamboa
but miles away in terms of peace and quiet.

The village children were very interested in Gwen, and she in them.

We took a short hike in the jungle where they showed us various medicinal plants

and we stopped to look at leaf cutter ants.

Gwen got a great close-up view of this parrot while we listened
to our hosts explain how the village was founded.

Then there was dancing

with fifing and drumming.

It was hot and sweaty, but what an incredible day!

Dogs everywhere know how to relax.

Then time for the short ride back to Gamboa.
